Government Bounce Back Loans

The government has launched a new loan scheme for smaller businesses. The new Bounce Back loans are for businesses wanting to borrow from £2,000 to £50,000. Eligible businesses will be able to borrow up to 25% of their turnover.

There will be no set- up fees or interest for the first 12 months. After 12 months, the government will agree a “low rate of interest” with lenders. The long term interest rate is still to be confirmed.

Businesses will be able to pay back loans over a period of up to 6 years

The scheme will be open to businesses trading on 1 March 2020.

The scheme will be 100% backed by the government, so there is less evidence required when applying.

The online application process is apparently designed to be “short and simple. The plan is that businesses should receive the money within a few days of applying.

The scheme will be launched on 4 May 2020. You can find guidance for applying for Bounce Back Loans on the Government website.
